In the relationship between an employee and their manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-13 wp-block-paragraph\">This is where the leader-coach stance becomes particularly powerful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-14 wp-block-paragraph\">The professional coach provides a space for reflection, an outside perspective, and a specific support framework.<br>The leader-coach intervenes on a different level. They are present in the reality of the activity: during moments of doubt, decision-making, tension, or progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-15 wp-block-paragraph\">Between coaching sessions\u2014and often long after\u2014the collaborator continues to experiment, learn, and solidify new practices. The leader-coach then plays a key role in supporting this progress, encouraging autonomy, and guiding realizations into concrete actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-16 wp-block-paragraph\">As a professional coach, I can only encourage leaders to develop this mindset. The two approaches are not opposed. They complement each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-17 wp-block-paragraph\">External coaching drives and accelerates. Internal leadership coaches support, anchor, and multiply transformations over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-18 wp-block-paragraph\">Today, I am pleased to see more and more organizations investing in coaching skills development. And it's no coincidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-19 wp-block-paragraph\">When leaders adopt this stance, they create the conditions for growth, engagement, and sustainable performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-20\"><strong>What is a coach-leader?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-21 wp-block-paragraph\">I like to talk about empowering leadership \u2013 or, in English, <em>The Empowering Leader<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-22 wp-block-paragraph\">It is a leader who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list gtfy-28\">\n<li class=\"gtfy-23 gutenify-list-item\">serves his team<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"gtfy-24 gutenify-list-item\">create a stimulating environment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"gtfy-25 gutenify-list-item\">promotes accountability and collaboration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"gtfy-26 gutenify-list-item\">develop talents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"gtfy-27 gutenify-list-item\">and unleash collective potential<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-29 wp-block-paragraph\">A leader-coach creates the conditions for others to reflect, take initiative, and fully express their value. They open doors. They create connections.<br>It develops autonomy and decision-making ability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-30\"><strong>A very simple exercise to test your leader-coach posture<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-31 wp-block-paragraph\">Next time a colleague comes to you with a problem, resist the urge to immediately give them the solution for a few minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-32 wp-block-paragraph\">Try asking a few questions instead:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list gtfy-36\">\n<li class=\"gtfy-33 gutenify-list-item\">\u201cWhat have you already considered?\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"gtfy-34 gutenify-list-item\">\u201cWhat do you find most relevant?\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"gtfy-35 gutenify-list-item\">\u201cWhat would you need to move forward?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-37 wp-block-paragraph\">The discomfort that can be felt at the beginning (for the employee too!) reflects that habits are changing. And I agree, it's not an easy practice to adopt, especially when everything is moving fast and we think we're saving time by responding immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-38 wp-block-paragraph\">In reality, these few minutes help develop autonomy, confidence, and decision-making ability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-39 wp-block-paragraph\">And that is precisely where the leader-coach creates lasting value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-40\"><strong>Develop coach-leaders<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-41 wp-block-paragraph\">I can already hear you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-42 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHow can we adopt this posture when schedules are already packed?\u201d The good news is that coaching doesn't necessarily require more time.<br>It integrates naturally into everyday conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-43\"><strong>Three simple reflexes to activate today<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-44 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. Replace a responsive reflex with a question<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-45 wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-46 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDo it like this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-47 wp-block-paragraph\">Try this instead:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-48 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat would you do?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-49\"><strong>2. Encourage reflection before directing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-50 wp-block-paragraph\">For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list gtfy-54\">\n<li class=\"gtfy-51 gutenify-list-item\">\u201cWhat options do you see?\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"gtfy-52 gutenify-list-item\">\u201cWhich one seems most relevant to you?\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"gtfy-53 gutenify-list-item\">\u201cWhat would be the impact of this solution?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-55\"><strong>3. Allow for real thinking time<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-56 wp-block-paragraph\">Who is afraid of the void?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-57 wp-block-paragraph\">All of us! In ever-faster work rhythms, silence often disappears from exchanges. Yet, a few seconds are sometimes enough to allow the other person to structure their thoughts, clarify their ideas, and truly engage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-58\"><strong>A simple structure that works<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-59 wp-block-paragraph\">In my coaching sessions, I often propose this guiding principle:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-60 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Question \u2192 Contribution \u2192 Involvement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list gtfy-64\">\n<li class=\"gtfy-61 gutenify-list-item\"><strong>Question<\/strong> open the discussion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"gtfy-62 gutenify-list-item\"><strong>Apport<\/strong> Share the experience or seek impact if you see a collaborator going down the wrong path<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"gtfy-63 gutenify-list-item\"><strong>Commitment<\/strong> empower<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-65 wp-block-paragraph\">For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-66 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen do you think you can get this in place?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-67 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat do you wish to achieve?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-68 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat would success look like for the implementation of...?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-69 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat would be the benefits\/advantages of such an approach?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-70 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat is your next step?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-71 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat resources would you need?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-72\"><strong>The 5 Pillars of Coach-Leaders<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-73 wp-block-paragraph\">According to Harvard Business Review (<em>Successful leaders are great coaches<\/em>), leader-coaches rely on five essential pillars:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-74\"><strong>To take care<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-75 wp-block-paragraph\">Build trust and truly understand the person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-76\"><strong>Organizer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-77 wp-block-paragraph\">Put each in their area of strength to maximize their impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-78\"><strong>Aligner<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-79 wp-block-paragraph\">Connect individual actions to a clear vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-80\"><strong>Stimulate<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-81 wp-block-paragraph\">To encourage, challenge, and bring out the best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-82\"><strong>Support<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-83 wp-block-paragraph\">Support during key moments and celebrate successes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-84\"><strong>Two particularly useful models<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-85\">1- <strong>The G.R.O.W. Model.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-86 wp-block-paragraph\">Developed by Sir John Whitmore, it's a model I regularly use in <a href=\"https:\/\/lesaulerieur.com\/en\/home\/offers\/training\/management-fundamentals\/\">formations management <\/a>&nbsp;You Laughing Willow.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-87 wp-block-paragraph\">Simple, concrete and very effective for structuring a conversation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list gtfy-92\">\n<li class=\"gtfy-88 gutenify-list-item\"><strong>Objective<\/strong> Clarify the objective<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"gtfy-89 gutenify-list-item\"><strong>Reality<\/strong> understand the current situation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"gtfy-90 gutenify-list-item\"><strong>Options<\/strong> explore the possibilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"gtfy-91 gutenify-list-item\"><strong>Will<\/strong> Define a concrete action plan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-93\">2- <strong>The L.A.C.E. Model.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-94 wp-block-paragraph\">More recently, I discovered the L.A.C.E. model proposed by the Center for Creative Leadership. I appreciate its simplicity and its immediate applicability in everyday conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-95\"><strong>Listen to understand<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-96 wp-block-paragraph\">Listen to understand, not to reply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-97 wp-block-paragraph\">Listen to facts, emotions, values.<br>Also observe the tone, words, and body language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading gtfy-98\"><strong>Ask potent questions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gtfy-99 wp-block-paragraph\">Ask powerful questions... open and
