A bit of theory: resonant vs. dissonant leadership<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Daniel Goleman\u2019s Primal Leadership<\/a><\/em>, he describes two distinct leadership styles that profoundly impact team dynamics: resonant and dissonant.<\/td><\/tr>
Resonant leaders<\/strong> are the ones who make you feel seen. They\u2019re empathetic, connected, and create a sense of harmony – even in chaos. You feel they care about you, not just the work you produce. These leaders excel in emotional intelligence. Dissonant leaders<\/strong> take a more authoritative approach. While effective in urgent, high-pressure situations, their emotional distance can lead to frustration, stress, and disengagement. Employees may perceive them as cold, even if their intent is logical objectivity..<\/td><\/tr>
Here\u2019s the thing: we all have moments when we\u2019re resonant and others when we\u2019re dissonant. The key is awareness.
Being a leader is a gift of yourself to others. It\u2019s about showing up for others, not just as a boss but as a human. I\u2019ve found that when we focus on being resonant, everything flows better – productivity, trust, even joy.

John Harney and I go back a very loooong way. Too long for my ego to allow me to tell you! Our connection has crossed decades and continents during which I saw John grow personally and professionally. His vast experience comes from the diverse functions he occupied and countries in which he has lived. When I think of John as a leader, the words of Inclusion and Optimism come to mind.

In leading people he always sees the good side in them. He gives a lot of his time to coaching and mentoring them, in particular through the toughest situations. <\/td><\/tr>

What is inspiring to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes it\u2019s not only about \u201cwhat\u201d inspires you, but allowing yourself to \u201cbe\u201d inspired constantly. In this modern work world we all operate in \u2013 it is too easy to just grind out the days, get the tasks or projects done and move onto the next. Waiting for some relief on the weekend and ultimately some reward\/recognition from your boss\/customer\/employer. I believe the challenge is to purposely look to be inspired constantly.<\/em><\/td><\/tr>
Now it\u2019s not simply luck that something inspirational falls from the heavens! You do have to put in a little bit of effort.<\/em>
Once I have these, I must be open to recognizing these in the actions of my business or colleagues, in key initiatives in mine or similar industries \u2013 or as is more and more the case \u2013 when I\u2019m on social media. I know social media gets a bad rap \u2013 but honestly if you are clear in your likes and interests, the algorithm will do all the work for you!<\/em>

My current passion is sustainability. It\u2019s easy to get a little down about what we need to do and the speed at which it isn\u2019t happening \u2013 but I look to all the success stories from around the world, some small and some large \u2013 and it inspires me to keep going with our initiatives that will make a small and hopefully positive impact on our business and the planet.<\/em>

The one passion I have held since I started working (and probably before) is partnership. For me \u201cwin-win\u201d is not a clich\u00e9, but an approach that inspires me every single day. One of my own personal values is \u201cdoing the right thing, because it\u2019s the right thing to do\u201d\u2026.and it\u2019s really hard to do this in every situation! But it is core to driving true partnerships, which drive profitability, sustainability and above all trust. It absolutely inspires me to be remembered as the \u201cguy you could trust\u201d!<\/em>

Finally, just to prove you can be inspired everyday \u2013 I found this comment on linked in yesterday \u2013 I was inspired!!<\/em>

\u201cAnyone can learn the hard skills, it\u2019s the soft skills that matter more. Soft skills create sustainability, create a culture that allows for continuity and most of all build a reputation while been respected\u201d.<\/em><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
