Accelerating an executive leader's influence in a complex international environment
Challenge
A recognised talent within an international group specialising in security systems has recently taken up a new executive role in a strategic geographical area.
While his technical and operational performance was widely recognised, this new position demanded a change in stance: moving from a role of recognised expert to that of an influential leader capable of navigating a complex and international organisational environment.
The first few months highlighted several critical challenges:
- A need to broaden one's circle of influence beyond one's direct remit.
- Frequent interactions with high-level peers and stakeholders requiring further strategic alignment
- A strong expectation of visionary leadership and clear communication from the governing bodies
- A team to support towards greater autonomy and strategic alignment
Without targeted support, the business risks were real:
- slowdown in strategic decision-making
- Insufficient alignment between functions and regions
- Underutilisation of a key talent's potential during a critical phase for the organisation
The organisation therefore decided to invest in individual executive coaching to accelerate the leader's impact in this new role.
About
In a complex international environment, a leader's performance is no longer based solely on their expertise.
It depends on their ability to:
